The story of Sertus begins in the early 1990’s, when a few ex-patriots living in China were asked by a Taiwanese entrepreneur to help design, develop, source, market and sell an innovative foldable, seven blade screwdriver. Thanks to some very solid, long-standing relationships and an unrelenting work ethic, “Mr. 7 Hands” was successfully launched and gained shelf presence in a number of top retail chains across the United States. As business developed, the company established a product expertise in hand tools, which quickly spread to other hardgoods categories as clients sought our assistance in China with new items.
A significant breakthrough came in 2001 when the Target Corporation selected the company in a competitive bidding process to design and manage its hand tool private label program under the DURABUILT brand.
Major investments in a packaging and assembly facility, R&D, design, and a significant expansion in our quality control infrastructure established the foundation from which we have developed our private label expertise and helped dozens of other retailers and wholesalers in building their brands. Sertus set up a front-end sales and marketing operation out of Miami in early 2004 to attend to our growing business in Latin America. Since that time, the depth and breadth of our relationships have evolved and our geographic and product reach now extends across the Americas and Europe and spans multiple categories.
